The three words in the title are semantically similar in our department: there is a reason to celebrate. Yesterday was the first time this happened to me (25 years at UvA). The borrel (alcoholic drinks) is an obvious continuation of what we have done over the past 25 years. Finding a suitable present must have caused some headaches, apparently my ambition to cycle to the ICCS conference provided some inspiration. And I'm now the happy owner of Garmin MapSource Europe. This software makes it possible to plan cycling trips and download the maps and tracks onto my GPS. A wonderful and very useful present.
Bob Wielinga tried to sum up my "career" quantitatively in his speech: the number of drinks we had together (think in thousands), the number of tools I developed (precisely one per year), and the number of lines of code (about 25,000 per year). All of this actually serves a purpose: support innovative projects and help Ph.D. students fulfill their research ambitions.
Wondering what the next 25 years has in store. It will hopefully include a lot of cycling. Thanks!
