We are all being told that metadata is the next best thing. I conducted a little survey on the simplest kind of "manual metadata".
The survey was conducted using the RSS feed of 44 "KM bloggers" (links provided by Lilia). The RSS feed was automatically extracted from the homepage, and the Dublic Core creator field (dc:creator in most cases) was extracted subsequently. The intention of dc:creator metadata is that it names the person who created the object under investigation, in this case the blogger. The results:
Full name: 16
Partial name (first name only mostly): 7
Nickname: 9
Email address: 7
Combination / other: 5
What should the conclusion be? Less than half of the bloggers succeeded in filling in their own name in the appropriate field.
A man sees what he wants to see and disregards the rest.
