Soap Blogging

Carla summarizes our blogging evaluation meeting (with coffee, no cookies) under the provocative title Blogging in your underpants. Is that provocative enough? I was considering to include Prolog code in some of my posts to clarify the details. But refrained from it as it would no doubt upset so many people that a sentence like "the subsequent lines of this post can be really disturbing" would be necessary.

Provocative is not the main characteristic of a blog that many people like to read, I think. Quite the opposite, a popular blog has to be predictable and sometimes trivial, sometimes serious. A popular blog is much like a soap tv series, you see the life of the main character (blogger) slowly evolving. Other characters appear on the scene and go away again, the main character struggles and stumbles but also makes progress, there are many repeat posts, there is a cliff hanger, etc.

Of course, bloggers who are provocative all the time are also predictable :-).
