Sigmund on the US Presidential Debate
Cameron Marlow has posted a listing of the most popular noun-phrases in the transcript of the US presidential debate between George W. Bush and John F. Kerry.
I have applied Sigmund to the same transcript. Sigmund is a kind of electronic shrink that uses language technology to derive conceptualisations found in text. The tool is normally applied to collections of postings, for example weblogs or emails. For this exercise I considered each 90 second statement by the two debaters to be a single post.
The diagram on the left (click to enlarge) shows the conceptualisations Bush and Kerry share. One way to read this diagram is as follows. The blue nodes are persons and all other nodes are term classes, which normally point to concepts. A line between two nodes means that, statistically -- see the paper, the concepts underlying the nodes have a high co-occurrence in posts. One way to interprete such connections is that they are semantically related according to both contenders.
The thumbnails below were generated by asking Sigmund to draw the conceptualisation of a single term by both contenders. The notion in these diagrams is slightly different. The seed term (e.g. Osama bin Laden) is shown in red and is implicitely related to all other terms (without drawing a line). For example, Bush seems to "think" Osama bin Laden has something to do with Iraq, whereas Kerry links Bin Laden to Afghanistan.

I got lost about the meaning of the green concepts, which somehow seem key to understand the message intended (stressed) by both participants WRT the red one, i.e. the strongest relations.
Can you elaborate on the meaning of green?
I found the whole experiment very interesting.

The green nodes are concepts in an ontology about Knowledge Management. Perhaps they are key.
